Average Size: Depending on the type of rabbit anywhere from 2lbs to 20lbs
Appearance: They are normally categorized by their coats. Here are many recognized types: Angora, Argente, Beveren, British Giant, Californian, Chinchilla, Dutch, English Spot, Flemish Giant, Fox, Harlequin, Havana, Himalayan, Lilac, Lionhead, Lop, Netherland Dwarf, New Zealand, Palomino, Polish, Rex, Rhinelander, Sable, Satin, Siberian, Silver, Silver Fox, Smoke Pearl, Sussex, Swiss Fox, Tan, and Thuringer.
Lifespan: 8 to 12 years
Habitat: Life in a cage for rabbits is physically and mentally stressful. Although, they do need a large crate or pen to relax in during downtime. Homes need to be rabbit-proofed since they like to chew.
Food: Rabbits need 2-3 types of leafy greens per week as well as hay and plenty of cold water. They should only get ¼ cup of pellets per 5 lbs of body weight each day. They need an unlimited amount of timothy hay. Rabbits love fresh vegetables and fruit such as bananas.
Temperament: Surprisingly rabbits do not like to be handled and can bite or kick. Therefore they are not good pets for children. Rabbits like to chew. They are very playful and active.
Special Traits: Rabbits need at least 4 hours a day of free playtime. They are good diggers so rabbits kept outside need to be monitored. Also, rabbits are very prone to heart attacks with the approach of a larger animal such as a dog, cat, or raccoon. They can be litter trained. Their urine has a very strong smell so their litter needs changed regularly.
Other Important Info: Rabbits need groomed daily and their nails need cut regularly. Rabbits will spray so they should be spayed or neutered as well as having regular wellness check ups at your vet. Some vets consider them to be an exotic animal.
